Why Your Small Business Needs Social Media

So, you know who your ideal clients or customers are. But where are they?

Once you have a clear picture of what your audience is interested in, the next step is to figure out where they’re spending the most time on social media. You will only catch the fish if you are in the right river.

Not sure where to start?

  1. One of the easiest hacks is to check out competitors — see where they're most active (and how the language they use is or is not connecting with your shared audience).

  2. Look at how your audience is interacting with social media and which platforms they are actually using. For instance, the highest percentage of U.S. men and women who use Facebook are between the ages of 24 and 35. So, if your persona fits that bill, focus your strategy on Facebook.

  3. Start where the majority of your audience is and prioritize that social network. This is a great way to allocate your resources and efforts. But don't ignore other platforms! Diversifying the methods and channels you use for obtaining new leads helps you to connect with as many potential customers as possible. So, I recommend you start with at least two platforms.

Maintaining a presence is just as important as building one — for example, have you ever gone to a brand’s Facebook page, only to find that nothing has been posted in the past three months?

I get it! I get behind in posts too. The tyranny of the urgent is real and I prioritize my clients and family sometimes over my own business. We are all human.

However when you look at a page that hasn’t been updated in months, chances are, it doesn't have a positive impact on your perception. This is why working with a professional to execute your social strategy makes all the difference in the world.
