Why I Put Pronouns on My Email Signature (And LinkedIn Profile) And You Should Too

You might have noticed that more and more professionals are including their pronouns on everything.

This is not a trend, you should add yours too, like today.

As a cisgender person, it costs you nothing.

What does it even mean to be cisgender?

Cisgender is defined: adjective; denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds with their birth sex.

If you are a cisgender person there is almost no risk in sharing your pronouns. It actually might make a potential client feel MORE comfortable contacting you directly because they know HOW to best address you.

For a person who is transgender or nonbinary, sharing pronouns can be a bit riskier and sometimes scary.

If someone is transitioning and only a few people know about it, sharing pronouns may make it public knowledge before they’re ready. For a nonbinary person, sharing they/them pronouns often only sparks a lengthier conversation rather than simply inform people.

That’s why cisgender people should share their pronouns! It normalizes the process, has little risk, and actually makes for a safer environment for everyone.

At Clement Consulting we believe in making the world a better place wherever possible and helping our clients navigate the sometimes confusing trail we are all on together.
